(DO NOT BE ALARMED!) Visit to local hospital

JG: Dava, aka Little Baby, was burning up with fever from late Tuesday through Wednesday morning, so we decided to explore Argentina's FREE! UNIVERSAL! healthcare system. We paid a visit to Hospital General de Agudos Dr. Juan A. Fernandez, two blocks from our apartment.re

Here's the pobrecita (poor thing) cuddling with Jamie (and a Bartlett pear) in the waiting area., and

We walked into the examination room and were greeted by a class of pediatrics students. They were very sweet.

The doctor (far left) was kind as well, and entertaining. She had a wry sense of humor which, combined with her jewelry and general affect, reminded me of my maternal grandmother, Rita. I could easily have imagined her going out for a cigarette on her break.

Well, as Jamie correctly predicted, Little Baby has an ear infection, which, I can tell you, is a much less dire diagnosis than some of the horrors that had crossed my mind during the previous night. The hospital gave us (FREE!) antibiotics and sent us on our merry way.

It wasn't quite as dramatic as Franklin Richards getting smacked around in that Fantastic Four Comic that I read when I was 12 and that somehow stuck in my head (the brain was really wet cement in those days), but we're glad the worst is over.

  1. Jonathan, I literally cannot believe you remembered that comic panel. Wild. P.S. Send me free drugs please.
